The growing risks of Greenwashing and Purpose washing

Positive Impact Strategic Reinvention

The climate emergency and the search for meaning and responsible brands are driving companies to multiply their initiatives, not only to do no harm, but above all to create a positive impact.

These good intentions are not without risks, and engage the Company's responsibility in more ways than one.

The Climate and Resilience Bill has taken up this issue with an amendment that strengthens penalties for greenwashing.

How can we face up to the risks of greenwashing and purpose washing and commit to embodying our societal transformation?

The iQo consulting firm(Guillaume TEBOUL, founding partner, and Laura PERRES GANNÉ, director) and EMERIANE Avocats (Eole RAPONE and Juliane DESSART JACQUES, founding partners) have joined forces to answer these questions, drawing on their expertise in supporting corporate social transformation.
Today, the tone is no longer one of moral disapproval and reputational risk. Real legal risks exist, and need to be taken into account by managers when defining and implementing their global strategy and business model. In the event of green or purpose washing, the company and its directors may be held liable on at least four legal grounds (civil law, consumer law, financial market law and competition law).
