Business design is an approach that combines the methodology of design thinking with the tools of business analysts to respond to business problems (definition given by Alen Faljic, founder of the Design MBA program that trains designers in business design).
At iQo, we place strategic strategic reinvention and model transformation at the heart of our approach, whether this transformation is driven by a positive-impact approach or profound structural change.
To go beyond the definition of Business Design
Business design enables us to help companies move away from traditional problem-solving approaches, by combining the principles of design thinking and strategy to stimulate value creation and innovation.
The road to transforming an idea or concept into a viable long-term business is strewn with pitfalls. A hypothesis, an idea or an innovation only makes sense if it can be put into practice in a way that allows all those involved to see its relevance in concrete terms.
Business design to rethink growth strategies
Business design enables us to help companies move away from traditional problem-solving approaches, by combining the principles of design thinking and strategy to stimulate value creation and innovation.

With the business design approach, we rethink the company's overall development strategies to meet today's challenges and create tomorrow's opportunities. The company's business model will be diagnosed, questioned and challenged, so as to put forward new development hypotheses within the framework of a vision shared by the teams. These development hypotheses will be sorted out, tested without incurring monstrous costs, evaluated before being validated and then implemented, all thanks to a methodical and accelerated approach.
iQo's unique approach to business design , based on 8 pillars, provides the conditions for success in creating new growth models.
The 8 pillars of the Business Design approach
Clearly define the objective of the Business Design approach to encourage the conception of new solutions
Conduct interviews to detect key insights and gain a clear understanding of the problem at hand
Generating innovative solutions in the Business Design approach means working with a wide range of profiles and skills, and taking into account all their ideas, even contradictory ones (diverging before converging).
Build prototypes to test solutions and learn from feedback
Start hypothesizing, prototyping and testing solutions, even with small amounts of information
Use visual tools to represent ideas and data
Don't rule out solutions that may seem extreme, to provoke reactions and generate new ideas
Combine all types of data/information to make assumptions more reliable
What does the Business Design approach offer?
- Create a shared vision (see step 3 "Setting up hybrid teams") before launching a project
- Use collective intelligence to be as close as possible to customer needs (see step 2 "Listening to customers and stakeholders") and synchronize your contributors
- Have a basic understanding of how to build a business design approach (see steps 4, 5 and 6)
- Understand and estimate projects more flexibly and agilely (see steps 5, 6, 7)
- Learn how to build an operating model for your business (see steps 7 and 8)
